“Open for Business”

It was not “long anticipated”. These guys are too professional. They knocked this out in record time with almost no delays. When is the last time you heard that about a Hoboken bar?

The official opening will be Thursday Nov. 4th at 5pm. Happy hour.

Patty has been running the show at Piccolos since is father, “Sparky” Spaccavento, stepped down and handed him the keys to the shop. What started as a clam bar in a port town has evolved into a sandwich paradise. Where old values and simple principals produce a product and atmosphere my soul craves. Though there are a few specific categories we choose to recognize:

Chef Anthony Salvatore prepares entrees that will haunt you. This past week I was getting my hair cut in Mr. L’s Barber Shop at 6th and Park. Nicky was evangelizing the lasagne whilst attending my sideburns.

I dare you to order cavatelli and broccoli with sausage from Anthony and tell me it is not the best.  If that is not your dish you can look the specials board for anything that they might be pushing. Nicky is right about the lasagne, too.

With the dinner entrees you’ll enjoy Dom’s famous bakery bread for sopping up savory sauces. I have a system of bribery with some of the employees to get extra bread with every order. I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.

If you don’t know what you want, simply ask Anthony. He loves to talk about food. He’ll tell you why this ingredient is the best, or what is in season. Most often he simply tells you what he likes.

His casual banter is one of the draws to the small kitchen on First Street.  Unless it is busy in which case he’ll be stressed out in true artist fashion. He cannot fathom the idea of providing a sub-par dish, so he becomes frantic to ensure attention to detail when the phone rings off the hook. If you walk by a few times in the same day you may catch him alternating between the cool demeanor of Dean Martin at the same age, and Gordon Ramsay in Puma sneakers.
